SUPPORTED LIVING

Supported Living

Unity Living's team are experts at resourcing, matching and supporting suitable volunteers to live in a variety of supported living settings.

We work with Developers and Councils to develop to create practical solutions and also with Care Homes, Retirement Villages and Assisted Living Facilities, to introduce the concept of supported, intergenerational living to their model.

The volunteers offer befriending, reassurance and low level practical help and either live in a spare room in the same property, or in separate accommodation alongside the elderly and vulnerable residents,  free of charge or paying a discounted rent.

Supported intergenerational living addresses the pressing needs of two sets of people. It helps vulnerable and older people to stay connected to society, to stay well, to retain – and regain – a level of supported independence, to acquire a sense of value and purpose and to reduce loneliness and anxiety. It also helps the volunteers (mature students, key workers, other professionals) with an affordable housing option – which is often out of financial reach, especially in cities. Loneliness affects all generations. Living this way gives the volunteers so much more than an affordable home; it is about developing a connection with people, adding value to their own growth and development and improving their own psychological well-being.
